Nairobi, Kenya
Nairobi is Kenya's capital and largest city, having a population of approximately three million. A sizable percentage of the population live in desperate situations in slum areas that lack most of the basic elements we consider a normal part of life - clean water, electricity, health services, etc.
Sports Outreach ministers in a variety of ways helping to meet pressing physical needs while at the same time providing the spiritual emphasis that is central to our entire ministry.
Over 350 children currently receive two meals a day, six days a week. All of these children attend the SOI funded Sports Outreach Mission's Mukura Primary School where they receive academics and daily discipleship.
While ministering with the gospel in Mukuru Slum, God used SOM to draw together HIV+/AIDS women. Through Bible study and crafts they have formed a tight community of caring individuals.
A "street boys program" is touching lives in one of Nairobi's most notorious neighborhoods. Meeting on Sundays for three hours, the boys are ministered to through testimonies, praise and worship, Bible study, counseling, feeding and an "open time" where they can simply interact with those working with this program. By showing care and concern for these boys growing up in extremely difficult surroundings, a solid impact is being made with the Gospel.
