Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
– Proverbs 22:6 NIV –
If you ask a child in our communities a goal that he or she strives for, going to school is the most popular answer.
If you ask a parent in our communities a goal or wish they have for their child, education is the most common desire.
We know at Sports Outreach that educating boys, girls, men, and women is important to help provide jobs, brighter futures, and a way out of the traditional impoverished life. Formal education teaches life skills, discipline, hard work, tenacity, setting and achieving goals, develops critical thinking, and respect for others and for oneself. The classroom setting supplies the knowledge necessary to empower young minds to blossom and fosters success in acquiring an occupation. These lessons are then passed on to their family, thus rebuilding a community and a nation.
Education and literacy are an important part of success in today’s world and are a true gift of empowerment. In our programs, many of the children struggle with the resources to pay for school fees, uniforms, books, or for tuition even if they could attend. Some children might be able to attend school for a couple of weeks, but must drop out because of lack of funds; this creates a gap in their education. For this reason, it is common in our educational programs to see an elder kid placed in a lower grade.
How you can step on the field for these kids.
Sports Outreach provides scholarships for children and young adults who would otherwise not have the opportunity to go to school.
The Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Norm and Trish Popp in 2005 after their son Andrew tragically died. From its humble beginnings in 2005, the fund now assists with the education of over 1,000 students in Uganda, Kenya, and El Salvador.
Your monthly gift of $40, $60, $65, or $100 provides a full year scholarship for a student in Uganda, Kenya or El Salvador. Any one time gift will have a direct impact on the Sports Outreach education initiative.
