Stepping into the lives of students

Gloria Nakalembe and her family make their home in Bwaise Slum in Kampala, Uganda. She is 11 years old, the second born of four children. Her mother separated from her dad when she was seven, and since then she has been unable to attend school for three years due to lack of school fees. Sports Outreach coaches found Gloria and her siblings loitering in the community, struggling to find food and invited them to the SOM feeding program. Gloria and her brother’s lives began to change as they received a meal and encouragement day by day. Through The Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Fund Gloria is again able to attend school and is currently in the “primary four” grade. She has been given restored hope and we are witnessing life-changing transformation through education. Instead of worrying about where her next meal comes from, Gloria can now focus on her goal of becoming a teacher.

Since January 2006 The Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Fund has given hundreds of children like Gloria the opportunity to attend school in Uganda, Kenya, and El Salvador. Each year sees more students graduating and giving back to their families and communities, a result of both the education and the Christian nurture, which every “Popp Scholar” receives. Just $378 a year will enable one child to attend school. It is our prayer that hearts will be stirred to step into the lives of the many children who are waiting to become an Andrew Popp Memorial Scholarship Fund student!

Blessings,

The Sports Outreach Ministry Team
