December 2018

“And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

–  Ezekiel 38:23  –

Celebrate with us as we glance at just a few of the many highlights of 2018.  God has been so faithful to Sports Outreach and we give Him the glory!

Needs are being met in Nairobi, Kenya with over 1,200 children being served porridge and 650 lunch each day at 12 different schools.  For some, it is their only meal of the day!  In addition, 15 Girls of Destiny (at-risk 8 to 18 year-olds) are being reached with God’s love, discipled, and encouraged to use their special talents.

First Annual Sports Outreach Lynchburg Golf Outing success!  Fifteen teams, five churches, and thirteen businesses were involved, with proceeds going to Domestic Ministry efforts. (Picture of the Sandrof Auto Body Team, faithful business partners).

The Chess Academy and the new soccer field at the Sports Outreach Resource Center (SORC) in Kampala, Uganda, are now complete. The field was named “The Russ and Sue Carr Field,” honoring the founders of Sports Outreach.

English classes, meeting space, overnight accommodations, and bathroom facilities will soon be available at the El Salvador Ministry Center as generous partners have graciously offered to help build a second and third floor.

Christine Gelatt, the founder of Freedom 4/24, traveled to Christine’s House (which bears her name) at the Good News Community Center in Gulu, Uganda. “I was again reminded of both the pervasiveness of evil in this world, but also of the profound impact of one life rescued, redeemed, and restored.” Over 200 people on 18 teams visited Sports Outreach ministry sites this year, using their God-given gifts and talents, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, and being personally transformed along the way.

Tim and Barb Wood, working in Ometepec, Mexico, spent a week in July training missionaries.  Following this “missionary camp,” the participants deployed to various church plants for ministry. This year over 1200 Gospel books were shared with 223 people making decisions to follow Jesus.

2018 has been a boom year for growth in Sports Outreach’s Domestic Ministry!  The addition of Rich Riehl in North Carolina and Ed Pulkinen in South Carolina/Georgia has been a blessing.   Quarterly coaches training, summer camps, a revamped basketball program, and new leaders for our Lynchburg, VA, and Charlotte, NC chess programs are exciting highlights.

Below is a link to our “Ministry at a Glance,” a two-page snapshot of Sports Outreach.  We invite you to take a look and praise God for how He is continuing to use Sports Outreach to Restore Hope and Transform Lives.  Many of you have been involved from the beginning through your prayers, donations, trip participation, business sponsorships, and volunteers! THANK YOU!
