A Good Time Was Had By All
A 20 person team from New Albany Presbyterian Church (New Albany, OH) has recently returned from ministry in Ometepec, Mexico, home of SOI staff members, Tim and Barb Wood. Accompanied by Sports Outreach president, Rodney Suddith, the team kept very busy through teaching ESL (using the game, Twister), softball outreach, missions camp maintenance and visiting the local church.
Intern Chooses Sports Outreach
Sarah Spiro, a sophomore at Wofford College (Spartanburg, SC), chose Sports Outreach as the place to serve her January internship. A biology and Spanish major, Sarah worked to complete the translation of our public health manual into Spanish and assisted with international trip team preparations. She also participated in Sports Outreach’s local after-school program, chess outreach, and helped plan the May 2016 Ballin For the Burg Soccer Tournament. Sarah was a great addition to our team and something she learned during her time was that God can use so many different gifts in an outreach ministry, not just evangelism and office skills.
Soccer Camps Galore
It is the time of year when the Lynchburg local ministry starts gearing up for their soccer camp season. The camps are from children ages K-5th grade and are held at various sites around Lynchburg, with a few even held at farther sites. Please visit our website at https://www.sportsoutreach.net/events/ to learn more and to register for the camps.
Anniversary for El Salvador
This month marks four years that Sports Outreach has been reaching those that need Christ in El Salvador. Under the direction of Humberto and Mirna Alferez and their staff, the ministry has grown to include soccer/sports outreaches, ESL, Soccer Academy (on Saturdays), orphanage visitation, handcrafts workshops, and developing community (slum) ministry, and EmpowerMe Child Sponsorship.
