Get The Goat

On an ordinary game day the rallying cry for the Westmont College Women’s Soccer Team is “Win the Day!”  But game day in Gulu, Uganda bring cries of “Win the Goat!” During the team’s recent vision trip to Uganda they took part in the Soccer Empowerment Gala, the grand prize? A goat! The Empowerment Gala, which included a march and testimonies, was successful in spreading encouragement and gave young girls an opportunity to display courage, strength, and power simply by kicking a soccer ball.

Ballin’ For The Burg Day Remains Dry

Though rain was in the forecast, God held it off until after the completion of the second annual Ballin’ for the Burg soccer tournament, which was held May 21, 2016 at Lynchburg College.  Congratulations to the Liberty Men’s Soccer Club who took home the winner’s trophy for a second time.  All the teams got into the spirit of competition for the cause of raising funds for Sports Outreach’s local ministry.  Special thanks go to the business sponsors, volunteers, and participants, who helped make the day such a success!

Word Of God Goes Forth In Nanette

Willis Muwanguzi, Sports Outreach team leader in Kampala, Uganda oversees a “catch up class” in Nateete Slum for children needing a little extra help before attending primary school. Last month he reported:  I realized that most of the ladies who bring their children for the catch up class are Muslim ladies around the community, so decided to find ways of reaching them with the Word of God.  We started with ladies from the church we partner with and girls who attend our programs and I requested they invite their neighbors. Thirty ladies and girls have joined the program and are learning how to make bags, necklace and bangles. I think they will be able to sell them and earn some income in order to enroll their children in school and also have some income to sustain their homes. This will bring transformation to their homes, thus restoring hope. The pastor of our partnering church was so excited and said that ‘I didn’t know that these ladies could preach the Word of God to others—this program is going to help my church grow and bring Muslim ladies to the church!’”
