Dewey Gunnoe, Owner and Founder of Gunnoe Sausage Co.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
You might wonder what a Central Virginia sausage company has anything to do with sports ministry. Well, owner and founder of Gunnoe Sausage Co., Dewey Gunnoe began to support Sports Outreach Institute for a little more than five years ago. Gunnoe came into contact with SOI through their connection with Dominic and Kendall Alvey who serve as “BWC Kids Directors” at Brookhill Wesleyan Church, where Gunnoe attends.
Gunnoe describes the Alvey’s as “One of the greatest couples I know.”
Gunnoe Sausage Co., based in Goode, Virginia, serves states throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, according to the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gunnoe started his company in 1965, and since then, the processes and ingredients remain relatively unchanged. The company is family run and includes Dewey’s son and daughter—Cynthia and Craig—both as acting Vice Presidents.
Gunnoe believes the mission of SOI is important in the Lynchburg community. He sees sports as unique Gospel spreading tool.
“It’s really good for good people to be working with our children. You can make connections through sports, that you cannot make through other avenues,” Gunnoe said.
Gunnoe has been adamant about giving back through his success, both to the Lord and to the people in the community.
“It’s important to your community to help,” Gunnoe said.
According to Gunnoe, he and his company contribute to the community in a number of ways, including supporting Bedford ministries, schools and church functions.
Although his business may exist in order to satisfy the tastes of his consumers, Gunnoe believes it is important to satisfy the spirit.
Since 2008, Gunnoe Sausage Co.’s, support has been consistent and it is clear that he believes in the people and mission of SOI.
“It’s an everlasting outreach,” Gunnoe said.
