Sports Outreach staff in Gulu, Uganda are thanking God for last month’s successful chess tournament that saw 28 children give their lives to Christ.  Over 100 children of all ages came from surrounding districts to compete under the banner of “Planning,” based on Jeremiah 29:11.

Isabella, an autistic six year old, has been attending a government school in Nuevo Cuscatlan, where El Salvador Sports Outreach director, Humberto Alferez, has worked as well.  During the past two years that Isabella has been there she has never once spoken—until last month!  Humberto reports that on one “early morning she saw me and ran to hug me and started rubbing my hair when I was about to start my second grade class. I said ‘Hello’ to her and she answered me in English saying ‘Hello’!. Since that moment she didn’t stop talking and repeating English words and also worked coloring a bird while she stayed with me in the second grade class.”  It is through the commitment of faithful donors that English classes are taught and that God is given the glory for amazing works like giving Isabella a voice!

Nathan Love, a 2015 high school graduate from California, has been an intern with Tim and Barb Wood in Ometepec, Mexico since October, 2015.  Assisting Barb at the Carey Brenton School and helping with sports ministry are his main priorities, however, since the Woods are involved with so many endeavors, Nathan has been exposed to many more facets of life in Ometepec (see below).  On another note, next month Tim Wood will be visiting the U.S. in time for the Sports Outreach board meeting.  On April 17, 2016 Tim will be speaking at New Albany Presbyterian Church in New Albany, OH.

The Sports Outreach team in Nairobi are thankful for God’s favor during their football (soccer) clinics during this new year.  Clinics were conducted in the community with a couple of youth teams and many hearts were open to the gospel teaching from John 4 about living water.
