Empowering Youth to Stop the Spread of Covid

Public Health has always been a crucial element of ministry in Kampala as it is at all Sports Outreach ministry sites. Now, especially with the Coronavirus pandemic, the need has increased to teach children and families proper sanitation and cleaning practices.

The FOOTBALL 4 WASH initiative, which promotes hygiene and sanitation through soccer, has been very instrumental in the Kawempe slum where some of our coaches serve. Public health talks have continued to take place in other slums as well, with the main focus on the observation of standard operating procedures for the mitigation of the spreading of Coronavirus. Other topics covered include water-borne diseases and malaria. They have trained some of the soccer players to be community public health ambassadors, like Jonathan (pictured), with the responsibility of reaching their peers and their communities. This is essential to the empowerment of the kids in the programs but also to the coaches!
